Conflicts when IAQ is the only concern

When you discover a deficiency in an HVAC system, you are going to be tempted to call for adjustments. Unfortunately, when IAQ is the only concern, other interests suffer. For example:

When airflow is increased to bring OA to people, drafts and excess energy costs may result.

When humidity is reduced to control bioaerosols, people may complain of dry throats and sparking carpets.

When humidity is raised for comfort, bacteria growth may increase and water may condense out in ductwork and on windows.

When more efficient filters are installed, airflow may decrease and energy costs will increase.

When smoking is restricted, communications suffer.
